Marriage proposals – quirky ways people have proposed
Enter our unique competition to win an outstanding wedding package
There is no doubt that proposing marriage to someone is a terrifying experience. What if they say no? What if something goes wrong, or you can’t get them to sit still and listen for long enough to hear you out? Do you have to fall on your knees in public and declare your love, or will a mumbled “Will you marry me” suffice?
Regardless of how nerve-wracking it is to do, the humble marriage proposal still needs to be made if you and your partner are to live together in perfect marital bliss for the rest of your lives together. The traditional marriage proposal takes place with the gentleman in a romantic setting producing a ring unexpectedly, preferably after the couple have been out somewhere spectacular to enjoy fine wine, food and music.
However, people these days have found some ingenious and quirky ways to propose to their loved ones. Here’s the lowdown on the quirkiest and most innovative proposals to have been undertaken recently…
Engraving an iPhone
A highly sophisticated and modern romantic recently took the initiative to buy a new iPhone for his intended, and engraved the back with his proposal. Needless to say, the two have subsequently become husband and wife, and it’s likely that they call each other, often!
Getting the message on Google Maps
An inspired proposer made sure that he was captured on Google Maps for his area, holding up a three-foot high notice asking his beloved to tie the knot. The message stayed on the site for a few months, proclaiming his intentions and making sure that his girlfriend got the picture.
The Twitter proposal
In this day and age, Twitter is the only way forward when it comes to communicating between modern boyfriend and girlfriend. The tweeted proposal is becoming more popular as a highly-visible way of asking for your partner’s hand in marriage, in front of a very large virtual audience, all of whom can wait with tense anticipation until the tweet is responded to.
The iPhone application
A geeky romantic developed an entire iPhone application treasure hunt dedicated to the task of proposing to his future wife. By crafting a treasure hunt-style game, he was able to lead his intended bride through a series of games until he finally popped the question at the end. The map of the treasure hunt showed the girlfriend making a heart shape before reaching the final destination in the game…the virtual ring.
